Well, since my last update on the 16th of February, we have had everything in the way of weather, from violent storms to heavy rain, beautiful calm sunny days, a sprinkling of snow and at the moment a bitterly cold South Easterly gale with rain or possible snow on the way. From a piscatorial viewpoint our catches have slowed down somewhat from the lightening start which we enjoyed.
Having said that we finished with 10 fish for February, with another three for the month since my last update. Urs landed his second fish for his week on the 17th, a cracking fish of 11lbs1.5ozs from the New Island Pool on a Cascade. Steve Jones had risen the fish a couple of hours previously, but the fish obviously wasn’t in the mood! Steve managed to redeem himself the following day when he landed one of 8lbs2ozs in the Waterfall on a Boundary Shrimp.
Denis Daly continued the good run when he landed what his good friend described as a nice wee fish from the Waterfall again. The fish actually weighed in at 11lbs and was taken on a Delphi Collie, which his good friend had tied!
There was a lull then for the remainder of the month. Conditions were good enough, but it turned very cold and there was an extremely strong upstream wind which made fishing very difficult, even for the pros. That brought our February total to 10 which is well above our 10-year average of 4.5.
March saw the return of some of our very experienced shareholders and Heinz didn’t disappoint when he landed a fish of 7lbs14ozs from the Waterfall on a Delphi Collie on the 3rd. Fishing has slowed down somewhat since then, although conditions have not been ideal, with some stunning bright sunny days over the weekend, which has now turned into a South Easterly gale. Water levels are now at 28 and if we get some rain, it will obviously rise. Tight lines! D.McEvoy.
