"Delphi's location is awesomely gorgeous" BRIDGESTONE GUIDE
"Is there a more awe-inspiring location for a house?" BRIDGESTONE GUIDE
"The Estate is one of Ireland's hidden treasures..."

Independent Reviews of Delphi LodgeDelphi is featured in a number of independent guidebooks, including:
We strongly recommend that you check out how others see us. We have absolutely no influence over the content of these guides, which are all supported by independent (and frequently anonymous) inspections of the houses listed. Here are just a few recent extracts: The reason why Peter Mantle’s country house and estate is world renowned is not just because of what it is, but also because of what it is not. Yes, it is renowned for being a beautiful house in one of the most beautiful places in Ireland – if not in the world – and, yes, it is beloved of fishermen hoping for a salmon, and it is beloved of food lovers who relish Cliodhna Prendergast’s cooking, and wine buffs can simply lose themselves in the incredible selection of wines on the list. But these alone don’t explain Delphi’s renown. No, equally important to its substantial assets are the fact that Delphi in no way tries to be a hotel, or to ape hotel style service. It has stubbornly and determinedly set its face against the modern blandness that people think of as luxury. So instead it is quaint, a place that is comfortable with itself, which means you will be comfortable with it too. In Delphi they know what they can do best, and the best is what they do. It seems a simple thing but it demands calm confidence. “Everyone’s favourite country house….Peter Mantle’s
Delphi Lodge is on a roll…..My favourite place of all. I loved the way
this was done. Peter Mantle was lovely, the house party feel worked brilliantly,
the cooking was probably the best we had, the wine list is quite amazing
and the rooms extremely comfortable with incredible views.” "Glorious setting......Decorated in an opulent
but relaxing style, Delphi Lodge is notably sociable, featuring excellent,
imaginative dinners taken around one huge table...." "This starkly beautiful swathe of mountainous
moorland is ideal get-away-from-it-all territory" “Is there a more awe-inspiring location for
a house than that enjoyed by Delphi Lodge? We don’t think so, and
everything else here is just as fine. Delphi brings it all together. Good
company, great cooking and a spectacular location - hell, spectacular
isn’t in it; Delphi’s location is awesomely gorgeous”. "Delphi Lodge feels more like a congenial houseparty
than a hotel" “All great fun, with good fellowship……excellent
cooking…… the welcome is the warmest……..a delightful
place” “Fortunately for those who have a love of wild,
beautiful places, they have restored the Marquis’ fishing lodge……..Such
is the popularity of the place that it is advisable to make reservations
well in advance to secure a summer booking” “Delphi is a dream destination, so much so that you’ll
pinch yourself every now and then to be sure you are not dreaming…….It
sits tranquilly amid a landscape that almost defies description……Worth
a splurge” “Cliodhna Prendergast has a range of dishes
that is vast & eclectic - some traditional, some ‘nouveau’,
some oriental” “It’s one of those places recommended
by folk all over Ireland…….a superb houseparty atmosphere
makes these occasions hard to beat and just as hard to leave…. Delphi
does it well whatever the season and most leave knowing it’s only
a matter of time before they return” "One of the classic country house experiences"
"The Marquis of Sligo did it in
style; so does Peter. It's the all-encompassing dining experience, from
the layout to the exceptional cuisine. This is a true jewel". "Inside, the emphasis is on clean,
bright simplicity in perfect taste; the grounds & environs are among
the most beautiful in Ireland. Tranquility, comfort and fishing are the
operative words here. You will want to stay longer than you planned...." "The seafood in the evening at
the lodge is pretty special - eaten at an enormous table, with Peter and
fly-fishermen from all over the world, and involving a drowsy evening
of port and tall fishing stories by a log fire, even in summer..." "On our visit, on a misty April
evening, wood smoke was rising from the chimney, a new delivery of Crozes
Hermitage was stacked in the hall and Mozart was playing in the snug little
library overlooking the lake. Among the guests were a couple of bankers
in their Jeremy Fisher waterproofs, a novelist finishing a book, and some
Americans from Philadelphia.....Bedrooms are unfussy but pretty....larger
ones have lake views. Bathrooms have piles of fluffy white towels. Book
well ahead. Heaven for walkers" "Everyone loves a real country
house and this award [as Irish Country House of the Year 2006] goes to
one that ticks all the boxes. This deliciously remote establishment is
magnificently located in an unspolit valley....Peace & quiet, a billiard
table, a well-stocked library and a serious wine list (great bottles at
very modest mark-up) can get visitors through a lot of wet days. And all
this matched by terrific food and outstanding hospitality" "Delphi is the country house experience
as scripted by J K Rowling" |
