Places to see
The main “sight” in the West of Ireland is the scenery. There are literally dozens of beautiful drives in all directions from Delphi. Whether through Connemara’s wonderful Inagh valley, or along the magical shoreline of Lough Nafooey, or the famous Sky Road at Clifden – just about any road you take will offer stunning mountain scenery, dazzling waterscapes and the tranquility of unspoilt rural Ireland.
With pubs and craft shops to break the journey, take in the glorious gardens at Kylemore Abbey, a seafood lunch in the pretty fishing village of Roundstone, a hike in the Connemara National Park or a tour of the architecture and history of Westport House (home of the Marquis of Sligo, Delphi’s original creator). For shop-aholics, there’s the charming Georgian town of Westport or the bohemian streets of old Galway. But drive you must – to really appreciate what makes the West of Ireland so moody, so peaceful and so unforgettable.
