Discover Connemara by bike
When it comes to cycling in remote and beautiful locations there are few places anywhere that compare to the Delphi Valley and this region in general.
The mountains and valleys in the vicinity of Delphi Lodge offer endless miles of cycling options, all with dramatic views of the hills, valleys, lakes and seascapes that Connemara and County mayo are famous for.
In many ways cycling in these hills and valleys is like a step back in time as farming practices and traditions are virtually unchanged for generations. At Delphi lodge we have some bicycles available for our guests who do not bring their own.
The following are just two examples of possible outings from the Lodge:
The village of Leenane, famous location for the film ‘The Field’, is a 12 kilometre cycle from Delphi Lodge, along the very beautiful, and Ireland’s only fjord, Killary Harbour. With views of shellfish farms and a stop off at Ashleigh Falls it all makes for a very unique cycling day out.
Another popular route is North of the Lodge, along Doolough for approximately 10 kilometers, then West to the unspoilt and windswept beaches North of Killary Harbour to witness the forces of nature at their most powerful and see and feel the effects of the Atlantic Ocean as it finally meets the coast line. From here you can look Westward across to the Inishboffin , Inishturk and Clare Island, the last inhabited islands of Western Europe. Next stop America! You might also be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of passing Dolphins.
Whatever form of cycling our guests prefer, we will do our utmost to point them in the right direction.
