August was typically August like for fishing, frustrating, especially in the last 10 to 12 days of the month. There were plenty of salmon to be seen but extremely difficult to catch. Sea trout were disappointing overall but there were a few high points especially towards the latter part of the month. more
We have had no salmon since my last update as they have been totally uncooperative, eventhough the Pettigrew and the Allcutt party have been trying extremely hard. more
There was some very good news on the sea trout front yesterday. Bernard Barton and family had a good days sea trout fishing, landing 15 in total, 3 off Fin in morning and 12 off Doo in afternoon. more
First of all sorry for not updating the blog since the 13th of August but I’ve been off for a couple of weeks. Since I last updated it has been typical August fishing, i.e. frustrating. Having said that we have had 29 fish, 10 off the River and 19 off Finlough. more
It’s always hard to know what to expect when we get loads of water. We have had over 3” since my last blog and we have had 31 salmon landed. This is not bad but after a long dry spell one often expects an abundance of fish and when it does’nt happen to the extent one was hoping, everything feels a bit flat. Having waffled on for a bit the fact is we have 31 fish in less than a week and there are plenty to be seen. more
When the river is at 20 and you think it’s lovely water, you know you hav’nt seen good water in a while. We had some very heavy showers on Friday night and have had some on and off since. As a result of this the river went to 35 yesrterday evening and was back down to 20 this morning but is on the way up again this afternoon. more
When condtions get difficult it takes the experienced anglers to get fish. With this in mind the names on the score sheet are not at all surprising.
Seamus Maguire who has been a Saturday regular for years got a sea liced fish on Saturday of 3lbs14.5ozs from the Turn Pool on a Silver Stoat. more
